It’s up to citizen journalists

March 31st, 2010

America’s media and education systems report only “official” versions of events.  Objective reports are suppressed and whistle blowers are often threatened or persecuted.  But the internet is a game changer, allowing people to discover and report current facts, and to re-discover lost history that was hidden and distorted to serve government interests of power and control.

In the People’s Media, free and open to all with access to the internet — on websites, YouTube, blogs, internet radio and tv — reports are scrutinized by thousands of truth seeking researchers who correct errors in open discussions and add their own analyses.  And truth is being told in ways far more creative than traditional classroom texts and lectures.

One example is author-artist team Susan Wells and Scott Beiser, whose enjoyable graphic book dramatizes the history of America’s prohibition laws, in a tale that echos Dicken’s A Christmas Carol.  Click to view and  read A Drug War Carol on line and join the grassroots movement to bring truth to the light.

Goodwill and smiles on a subway

The media love scary stories: terrorism, pandemics, global warming, killer raw milk…as soon as one story fades, scarier one are dreamed up.

Yesterday’s global cooling, reefer madness, population bomb, swine flu just vanish from headlines.  Nobody apologizes for scaremongering.  News media profit, politicians posture, pass more laws, appropriate millions, build bureaucracy bigger.

You and I lose more civil rights, submit to more regulation, pay higher taxes.  Once pioneers, adventurers, strong individualists, Americans are reduced to submissive, fearful, helpless pawns of the powerful.  People face daily grinds with few dreams, little confidence in themselves or their neighbors.

But each of us has the potential to live fully,  with joy.  this video is one reminder:

Grassroots Health Information
Offsets Official Misinformation

We’ve been trained since infancy to rely on “Official” organizations to tell us how to be healthy.fdalies
But the official stories have so often been wrong, we suffer epidemics of chronic disease and ruinous poor health.

For accurate information, seek foreign media

We don’t get real news from US media
Sadly, the best investigative journalism today comes from foreign new services. Major US media play shallow partisan games; but media from countries not controlled by the US government looked more objectively at events here. –Illustration at right by Pixelboy Studio.blogspot.com

Russia Today analyzes the entire political spectrum, not just the Republican/Democrat Tweedle Dee/Dum twins, and seriously investigates under-the-radar trends. On this day, Pakistan Daily published a more thorough investigative article on the US Federal Reserve System than any seen in US news.

It’s astonishing to see the critical analyses considered appropriate for readers of the best foreign news, contrasted with the weak-minded, Establishment pablum spoon fed Americans by our major media.

For Americans to be as well-informed on US news as many foreigners, it takes turning off TV’s highly-paid cheerleaders who fail to face facts about the bankrupt US Empire. With a bit of internet research we can access multiple sources for real US news, rather than infotainment and fear-based propaganda. Here’s a small section of the Pakistan Daily article:

“The United States grew rapidly for 120 years with virtually no inflation. With the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913, the inflation genie was let out of the bottle. Nixon’s closing of the gold window in 1971 unleashed a tsunami of inflation, covered up by statistical manipulation by the Fed and government.

For those who prefer seeing what real things cost, below is a chart with some key financial items for the average person. If it feels like your family has fallen behind since 1971, you’re right. Your pay has not come close to keeping up with the cost of a new house, a new car or gas to fill up that car. This is why it takes two parents working just to keep up with inflation.

Items…………………………….. 1971………. 2007……….. %increase
Average cost of new house$28,000… $314,000…… 112%
Median Income…………………. 10,300…….. 58,700…… 570%
Average monthly rent………. …….150…………..730……..48%
Cost a a gallon of gas ………………….. 0.40 ……… 2.80.. 700%

Average new car price …………. 3,430…….. 28,000……. 816%
US postage stamp ……………………….0.08…………
0.41… 512%
Movie ticket……………………………… 1.50………… 7.00… 467% ”
